Fire damaged LTM1400

We can rebuild them....

Published on Wed 10 Mar 2010

When this severely fire damaged crane arrived in the yard it was a very sorry sight indeed. However, lamenting its glorious history and resigning it to the scrap heap is not how we do it a JTCS!

We appreciate that waiting lists for machines of this size are long and prices usually sky high, so we set about lovingly restoring it so it can go to work once more.  Once recovered and transported by low loader to our yard at Great Gransden, Bedfordshire, additional craneage was needed to unload the disabled machine and to manoeuvre it into position so that work could begin.

Then it was all hands on deck to completely strip down the crane and as you can imagine this was no mean feat; meticulously cleaning and removing the damaged wiring; hydraulics and other parts. The main cab was almost unrecognisable and literally fell down around our staff as they struggled to remove it in one piece. In fact the whole front chassis was so warped from the intense heat that it needed to be cut off and a new one welded in place.

The crane receivFully restoreded many months of TLC from our experienced engineers in the attempt to restore it to its former glory and we are very pleased and proud to report that their hard work has paid off. Fully restored and repainted the crane looks as good as new!

Specialist tests have been carried out including the four year overlift, required under British Standards and LOLER, to ensure that its gargantuan strength has not been compromised.

So it’s a happy ending for this heavyweight, all that remains is to find a new home and that will be the icing on the cake.
